Knowing where ancient habitation sites are located is the first step in helping the Forest Preserve to protect these unique resources. Finding sites, so that they can be avoided from accidental disturbance or development is critical. There are a few ways that archaeologists locate and identify sites so that we can advise land managers and stewards how to best preserve them.
